GoodReads

I cannot say enough good things about GoodReads. If you’re a hardcore bookie or a casual reader, you should be on there and here’s why:

  1. Reviews. You loved that book but you hated this one? Tell your GoodReads friends. Tell the world. Make recommendations. Get recommendations. You can even put your two cents in about other people’s reviews. GoodReads makes reviewing books fully interactive. No more must you suffer with bland reviews cookie cutter reviews!
  2. Bookshelves. You get the basics: Read, Currently Reading, and To Read. But then GoodReads lets you create and personalize as many bookshelves as you like. You want a shelf just for books that feature exploding robots, have at it. You want to divide your books by author? By genre? By protagonist’s name? Whatever your cups of tea are, GoodReads gives you the shelves to put them on.
  3. Lists. Okay, lets be honest. Who doesn’t love lists? They’re like perfection in a chaotic world and GoodReads has them. Lists from “Best Historic Fiction” to “Greenest Books Ever.” Read and vote on other member’s lists and make your own. List on, you list makers, list on!
  4. Social networking. C’mon, I know you Internet people love your social networks. Forget your MySpace and your Facebook. This is like BookSpace! Network with bunches of book fans just like you – share your read lists, your reviews, your favorite quotes, your favorite genres, your favorite authors. Hell, you can even network with your favorite authors.
  5. Groups. Like the modern day equivalent of an old ladies book club. Group with like-minded readers and share your thoughts and opinions about the books you’re reading, start private groups with your friends, or join challenges like the 50 Books a Year group I’m in. Everyone likes to belong and now you can … to book Groups on GoodReads!

I linked GoodReads eight times in this post. If you haven’t clicked on one yet, hop to it! Don’t be shy, I’ll even be your first GoodReads (now we’re at nine) friend. Go, go, go, go!
